“How many sessions do I need?” is the most common question at a consultation. The answer is always individual, and nobody can give you an exact number in advance. But we can explain what it depends on.
Why one session is not enough
Hair grows in cycles, and at any moment it is in three different growth phases. The impulse only works on hair that is actively growing right now (the anagen phase). The “resting” follicles will produce hair over the following weeks, so a series of sessions is needed.
What the full course looks like
- With regular visits, the full course to complete removal takes 1.5–2 years.
- It usually takes 12–16 full sessions.
- Each session is shorter than the one before.
- The interval between visits is 4–6 weeks. Over time the gaps get longer, depending on the area and the stage of the course.
What affects the number of sessions
- Area: the face and small areas go faster than large body areas.
- Hair density and thickness: coarse, dark hair needs more time.
- Hormones: with hormonal conditions (e.g. PCOS) new hair may keep appearing.
- Previous methods: long-term waxing or tweezing can distort follicles.
- Consistency: sticking to the agreed plan gives the best results.
Don’t be put off by these numbers: with every visit there is less hair and the sessions get shorter. We will agree on an exact plan during your consultation. Why the course can take longer is explained in Why an electrolysis course can take longer.
