Electrolysis is safe, but not for everyone and not in every situation. The first rule is: do no harm. That is why everyone fills in a health questionnaire before the first visit.
Absolute contraindications
- Pacemaker. One of the most important ones: the electrical impulse can disrupt the device and therefore the heart.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Tendency to keloid scarring.
- Taking retinoids.
- Cancer.
- Blood disorders and poor blood clotting.
- Varicose veins in the treatment area.
- Hepatitis, syphilis, HIV/AIDS.
- Mental health disorders.
Relative contraindications
These may affect your skin after treatment, but with proper aftercare they may cause no issues at all:
- Uncontrolled diabetes. The skin heals more slowly. A 10–15 minute test treatment is possible, followed by 3 days of watching how it heals.
- A tattoo in the treatment area.
- Moles, warts, papillomas.
- Viral and infectious diseases.
- Uterine fibroids, breast cysts: only if they are not growing and with your doctor’s approval.
- Sunburn.
What is not a contraindication
Botox, mesotherapy and fillers are not contraindications, but the product may be absorbed faster.
Read the list carefully and don’t hesitate to ask if any point applies to you. The full list, including sugaring, is on the Contraindications page.
